Ovid
Most of the Greek and Roman myths you read in high school were retellings of stories from Ovid's Metamorphoses. Choose your favorite myth and read Ovid's version of that myth. Read also one of the Ovid myths that you *hadn't* read before. Cite one example for each myth that shows particularly well Ovid's "insight into the human condition."

Bk I:68-88 Humankind
In this myth, it talks about when human kind was born. It was the only animal that could rule the others. There was already fish for the waters, stars in the sky, and birds in the air. The god made the human stand and look upwards.
This just pretty much tells how the Greeks and Romans thought humans were first put on the earth.
We didnt read any myths in high school so far, so I cant answer the first question. The one myth that I read was Book 4: Clytie is transformed into the heliotrope.
The story thing that I read is about love I guess. Ok so I really dont get these things. There is something about betrayal. And the Clytie lady was betrayed by the god of light.
Ok so I dont know what else to say after that because Im not good at decoding Greek and Roman myths. But thats about all i could get.
Bk IX:439-516 Byblis falls in love with her twin brother Caunus.
In this myth, it talked about a women who was in love with her brother. The brother was her twin. It also talked about how the gods had all these laws, that said it was bad. She loved her brother, but not the normal brother sister love. She imagined what it would be like if she would be with her brother. Some people thought it was ok, but others would not allow it. So, thats what i got out of that story.
Bk I:52-68 The four winds
The myth I read was "the four winds". They talk about how the gods had to make all the winds to work for the earth. THere were four winds and they each had names. IT was pretty good.
I read the first section of Metamorphoses Book VII. Bk VII:1-73 Medea agonises over her love for Jason is the title.
Medea just tells why she loves Jason. She says that if she doesn't marry him, it will just not be right.
I read book I:274-292. It is called The Flood.
Jupiter (the sky god) got very mad at humans. He gets all the oceans, rivers, and streams to help him flood the earth. Neptune hit his trident on the ground, which caused more water to come. The earth was covered with water.
Bk I:68-88 Humankind
This myth is about how human kind was born. It tells about how they thought everything was created. THey thought that everything came from the heavens. THey thought that the animals and everything came from the heavens. This just shows that they believed that everything was created by gods and goddesses.
Bk I:52-68 The four winds
THis myth was how there are 4 winds which have different things and meanings and names and the gods had to make the winds so that they could go around the world.
Bk XII:146-209 Nestor tells the story of Caeneus-Caenis. I havent read any other myths before this.
But this one was about Achilles and his victory over the Cycnus and they talk about how Achilles can repel any sword and any weapon and he was great fighter. Cycnus was the only other fighter that was able to shake off spears, swords and arrows and he was now deafeted achilles was gloating how powerful he was even though a long time ago Caenues was as powerful.
THe story is about how you shouldnt gloat becuase your not the most powerful there are always better.
Bk I:274-292 The Flood
In this myth jupiter is angerded by mankind and wants to teach them a lesson essenctially aso she start a flood but when she sees just rain alone will not be enough she calls on neptune to help out.
This basiclly says that if the gods dont like they way you are acting they will more than likely teach you a lesson.
Metamorphoses Book VII. 1-73 Medea agonises over her love for Jason.
Medea just tells why she Jason why she loves him. and she says that if she doesn't marry him, it will just not be right for either of them and they can't move on or something.
Bk IX:1-88 Acheloüs wrestles with Hercule
In this Achelous and Hercules fought each other. They both endured a lot of pain and kept going through with what they were doing. Achelous would change ways to win and Hercules would keep doing his best.
The point of this is to never give up on what you are doing. If you aren't winning at what you are doing just change your ways and keep trying.
Bk I:68 the title was humankind
The myth was about when the human was first born. It was the only thing that had control over others.
Everything else was already here like fish, and stars, and other living creatures.
It kinda just talks about how the Greek and Romans had the idea that they thought that humans were the first things on the earth
Byblis falls in love with her twin brother Caunus.
In this story, Byblis, a woman, is in love with her twin brother Canus. The Gods had rules agianst sibling love, but she didnt care. She thought Caunus was beautiful, but there twins, so she thinks shes beautiful. weird.
Bk IV:389-415 In my myth, the daughters of minyas are working and start spuming about god and profaning his name. The next day they start turning into bats and they fly away.
